My role & impacts

🎨 Like a color palette

Think of creative ideas.

Organize members' different ideas and merge them into one direction.

Encourage members with diverse personalities to brainstorm together.

How did we collaborate?

We worked and discussed everything together before the wireframing stage.

Once the wireframes were finalized, I independently worked on prototyping, usability testing, iteration, and UI design.

What does the app do?

A community connects people to develop green habits together

EcoDuer is a platform motivating users to maintain their carbon reduction habits, and connect users of the same goal within the community. Conducting carbon reduction activities is not alone anymore!

🌟

Enhance users' commitment to carbon reduction, and support users in sustaining these efforts in daily life

🧐

How might we help users use the app to cultivate habits of carbon reduction, and gradually form the Eco-lifestyle?

User
Research

Objective of the First Survey

To understand users’ awareness of carbon emissions and environmental protection.

How would you rate your level of environmental awareness?

Have you encountered any difficulties when trying to reduce carbon emissions?

Objective of the Second Survey

To understand the public's experiences when contributing to carbon reduction.

Have you had any experience with carbon reduction?

What are the reasons for choosing to engage in these carbon reduction actions?

Have you encountered any of the following difficulties while performing carbon reduction actions? (multiple choices)

I have intentionally omitted other questions from the surveys here.

From 2 surveys, we found out...

  • 86.6% users feeling they have enough environmental awareness

  • 61.2% users struggling to fully perform carbon reduction actions

The main 4 factors influencing users from carrying out carbon reduction actions are:

  • Convenience

  • Personal benefits

  • Motivation

  • Forgetfulness

User Interview

To gain a detailed understanding of pain points among different groups, we categorized users into 2 groups based on the survey responses. Among respondents willing to participate in interviews, we selected 5 target interviewees for further interviews.

  • Enthusiastic about carbon reduction: 2 people

  • Prefer simple, daily carbon reduction: 3 people

Interview outline

Icebreaker

  • Do you usually engage in carbon reduction actions?
  • How long have you been participating in carbon reduction actions?
  • What inspired you to start engaging in carbon reduction actions?

Experience

  • What carbon reduction actions have you done today (if none, ask about the most recent one)? Could you give an example?
  • Which carbon reduction action is the most easiest to carry out?
  • Which carbon reduction action is the most challenging to perform?
  • Do you have any other ongoing carbon reduction actions?
  • Have you tried any carbon reduction actions in the past but couldn't sustain them?
  • Have you ever considered implementing a carbon reduction action but ultimately didn't follow through?

Experience with Carbon Reduction Apps

  • Have you used any environmental-related apps?
  • Are you still using any of these apps regularly?

Expectations

  • What are your thoughts on carbon reduction actions?
  • How do carbon reduction actions impact your life?
  • If you had a superpower to help reduce carbon emissions, what would you want that power to be?

Takeaways✨

In this side project, compared to building the framework and visual design, our team spent more time on user research and defining user needs. Through this process, I gained the following insights.
